Listen. And understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with.  

                 It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear.    

                          And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

In 2029 machines control the world, and they continuously attempt to exterminate mankind. As part of there efforts they send someone back in time - to May 12th 1984, Los Angeles, and what appears to be a musclebound man begins to search for and exterminate any female with the name 'Sarah Connor.' All goes well for this 'man' as he successfully kills two of the three women listed in the phone book - however when he tracks down the third he is stopped in his tracks by another time traveler, Kyle Reese, who has been sent back to protect her. Rees explains to a bewildered Sarah that this man is not actually a man, but a machine......a Terminator. he tells her that these machines were developed by Skynet, a computer system that in the near future takes over all military hardware and launches a nuclear war against humanity. It is John Connor, Sarah's unborn son, who leads a human resistance against the machines. In a last ditch effort Skynet sent a Terminator back in time to kill Sarah before John is actually born.....

Having explained the story Sarah of course thinks that Rees is mad.....but this terminator will stop at nothing to accomplish its mission. Neither the terminator nor Reese can bring weapons from the future as time travel can only send living tissue back.

After avoiding further attacks by the terminator Reese and Sarah are arrested and taken to the Police station, where Sarah is looked after by Lieutenant Traxler and Sergeant Vukovich, whilst Reese is questioned by a criminal psychologist, Dr. Silberman. He concludes that Reese's story is a delusion, constructed in a such a way that it requires no evidence, preventing anyone from refuting it. Meanwhile the terminator turns up at the police building, and in no time at all it rampages through the building killing anyone that stands in its way. Reese and Sarah manage to escape and as they sped more time together they become more intimate. However the terminator soon tracks them down, and despite being knocked of a motorcycle and being blown up the terminator continues in its quest for Sara's death.

The final scenes of the film takes place in a disused factory, and after being burnt the terminator loses its living tissue - but its metal skeleton is still functional. Reese, who has been badly injured, attempts to stop the terminator once and for all, and Sarah, who proves to be more and more resilient as the film wears on, as the final say.....Of course the film ends with Sarah traveling to Mexico, and revealing that she is pregnant, and that Reese us the father.....
