Halloween

"He has no reasoning, conscience or understanding"

The story begins with a young Michael Myer's (six years old) being left with his sister on Halloween 1963. They are residents of a small town, Haddonfield, Illinois. Whilst his sister sits in her bedroom Michael puts on his Halloween mask and the viewer follows him up the stairs to his sisters room......where for no apparent reason he stabs his sister to death. He is subsequently remanded to Smith's Grove County Sanitarium and is brought before an adult court fifteen years later, on his 21st birthday, charged with the murder of Judith Margaret Myers.

His resident psychiatrist, Dr Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence), argues that Michael is dangerous, and that he must be remanded to a maximum security ward. However the court decides that a minimum security institution would be sufficient. Michael himself has not spoken one word for 15 years. Loomis states that he has studied Michael since he was six years old, during which time he spent eight years trying to reach him and seven years trying to lock him up.

It is, at this point, October the 30th 1978 and Michael is all set to be transferred. However no sooner is the transport arriving than Michael is escaping, and after hijacking a car he is back on his way to Haddonfield. Loomis knows where Michael is going......and is in hot pursuit.

It isn't long before Michael dispatches a few teenagers....before meeting Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), whom he pays particular attention too. The ending is every bit as tense as the beginning....and Michael's exit sets up the second installment.
