Friday 13th - Part V

"I guess he used the Jason thing to cover up"

The movie begins with a flashback sequence...Tommy Jarvis (Corey Feldman) walks towards the grave of Jason Vorhees and sees two adolescents digging up his grave...until we see Jason reach out of his grave with his trusty machete and carve them up. However its just a dream....and the focus of this film is with Tommy (John Sheperd) as a grown up (20 years old). Despite the fact that he has received every treatment and therapy available he is still haunted by the memories (Friday 13th Part VI) and is sent away to receive counseling at Pinehurst. Here we have a secluded house ran by a Doctor and his assistant, who aim to offer an alternative treatment to all of its residents.

The other residents all have serious issues, and the killing of one of them (Joey) by a fellow inmate (Vic) sparks a killing spree, as one by one the residents and staff all come to a sticky end. All of these murders are committed using Jason's old M/O, and we see the mask and various tools used for these murders it is obvious that Jason is back in commission.

However the twist, and as much as I don't want to reveal it I feel that I have to, is that on this occasion Jason is innocent. In fact the killer turns out to be a guy called Roy burns, the father of the first murdered kid. This guy is on the scene to clear up his sons body purely by chance, as an ambulance man, and he pops up on numerous occasions throughout the film as the bodies pile up. His motive was quite clearly revenge and for much of the film I actually believed that it was Jason doing the killing.

When reflecting upon this movie I thought that the overall idea was a good one, but what it lacked was an appearance of the genuine article - Jason himself. If for example he had emerged to take out the imposter himself then the film may have a little more credence.
