Salems Lot

"Theres a plague in town, people are dying and evil is in the marsden

              house...vampires are creating vampires."

Ben Mears is a writer who returns to Salem's Lot, a place where he spent much of his childhood, to write his latest book. He rents a room at the local B&B and it isn't long before he meets and dates Susan Norton, a local teacher. He wants to base his new story on a 'haunted house' known to be the Marsden house, a house which he believes to be inherently evil and one which is located in Salem. This is now lived in by the strange and sinister Mr Straker and the invisible Mr Barlow. We see Straker asking a local businessman, Larry Crocket, to arrange the collection of a crate from the docks. Larry sends two of his men to pick up the crate, which feels heavy, cold and it evens moves on its own in the back of their truck. Upon delivering it to the Marsden House they get curious and want to open it, but a few noises in the house scare them away.

Meanwhile two young boys (the Glick boys) set off home after spending the evening with a friend, Mark. Only one makes it home, with the other one ending up in the Marsden basement laid out on a table, with the delivered crate smashed to smithereens. It seems obvious that whatever was in that crate was alive, and may prefer the taste of humans to other food types. Pretty soon other children go missing, turning up later to tempt other children to 'open their windows to let them in.' At this point the viewer becomes aware that the theme of this film is vampirism, and while the residents, one by one, become vampires, we all want to know what was in the crate, referred to by Straker as 'the master.'

Ultimately it is left to Ben Mears, the local teacher and doctor to fight the evil that has emendated from the Marsden house and turned the residents of Salem into vampires. Aided by a local boy whose parents fell foul to the master, and Bens love interest, they agree that they must remove the master and Straker, but whilst in theory that sounds like a good idea in practice this may prove a tad difficult.....
