Gene and Sam arrive at a newspaper office where a handyman has taken a number of hostages in the aim of getting his lifestory published. Sam attempts to use his negotiation techniques but makes little progress - until he is able to persuade the perpetraiter (Reg Cole) to allow a nurse into the building. Of course the nurse turns out to be Annie in disguise - and it isnt long before Reg detects that he has been duped. However by the time Sam and Gene have joined the rest of the hostages.

Sam learns earlier in the episode that someone will die at 2.00pm - he believes that his life support machine (in 2006) will be switched off at that specific time. It is Sams belief that he must avert one to prevent the other. However when he and his two colleagues end up chained to a raidiator it seems that they will all end up dying at 2.00pm, which is when Reg says he will being to kill. Sam however manages to uncover the motives behind Reg's actions, and Reg begins to think twice about the validity of such actions. By 2.00pm Reg has a gun pointed at Sam's head (despite a number of failed attempts to escape by the team) and it looks as if Sam's time is finally up.....
