ALCOHOL TREATMENT REQUIREMENT

  • About your sentence:

The Court has sentenced you to either a Suspended Sentence Order or a Community Order with one requirement being the Alcohol Treatment Requirement. Esentially the Court have decided that you have a problem with the way in which you use alcohol, and that you need help in dealing with this issue. You have agreed prior to sentence to undertake this treatment.

You wil receive treatment, which includes counselling, and can last up to two years of you are subject to a Suspended Sentence Order, and three years if you have received a Community Order. This alcohol treatment requirement varies between Probation areas. In my area an ATr offers the minimum of twelve weeky sessions, and further treatment is offered subject to requirements,

  • Your 'Responsible Officer' will:
  • Explain your sentence to you and make it clear that you must attend the alcohol specialist for treatment
  • Explain what will happen to you if you fail to adhere to this requirement or avoid attending the treatment programme
  • Review your progress and assist you in completing the sentence sucessfully.
  • Treat you fairly and with respect

  • What you should do:
  • Adhere to the required treatment plan
  • Make sure that you understand what is expected of you, and ask questions if you do not know
  • Demonstrate respect to those Probation staff you come into contact with, and others you meet during your sentence.
  • Inform Probation staff if there are changes to your circumstances; i.e. your address of telephone number.
  • If you are having problems with your sentence tell the Probation Staff.
  • Let your responsible officer visit you at home if they need to
