The Court has sentenced
you to either a Suspended Sentence Order or a Community Order with
one requirement being the Specified Activity. It would appear that
different Probation areas wil offer varying specified activities,
although one recurrent theme would be that of an Education, Traing
and Employment (ETE) activity. Through this requirement you will
be given help, which you must accept, to find employment or improve
your skills, which in turn woul dincrease your levels of employability.
You will see an ETE
specialist who will talk to you about your previous employment,
your future goals, your learning experiences and what assistance
you will need in finding work. This contact can assist in a variety
of ways; enabling you to improve your basic skills, to access suitable
traing courses and improve interview techniques/application form
completion.
- Your 'Responsible
Officer' will:
- Explain your
sentence to you
- Make it clear
as to the type of work you will be undertaking and when you
wil be expected to attend
- Explain what
will happen to you if you fail to undertake the reuquired work
(you may be returned to Court)
- Review your progress
and assist you in completing the activity sucessfully.
- Treat you fairly
and with respect
- Attend appointments
on time
- Make sure that
you understand what is expected of you, and ask questions if
you do not know
- Demonstrate respect
to those Probation staff you come into contact with, and others
you meet during your sentence.
- Inform Probation
staff if there are changes to your circumstances; i.e. your
address of telephone number
- If you are unable
to keep an appointment inform Probation staff as soon as possible.
- If you are having
problems with your sentence tell the Probation Staff.
- Let your responsible
officer visit you at home if they need to
- If you are
taken back to Court, the Court may:
- Make you do more
requirements.
- Make you do different
requirements
- Make this requirement
or other requirements you are already doing more onerous.
- Send you to prison
Some Probation areas offer
further specified activities. For example in one such area there
is an alcohol requirement which can be incorporated as a specified
activity. The Court are able tospecify 'up to' the number of hours
an individual must complete within this requirement.
