DEEPTHROAT

Your lives may be in danger - you've seen things that were nor meant to be seen. I can                                      provide you  with information which is in my interest - proof.

The episode begins with the Military Police (MP's) storming a house in the suburbs, and a bewildered wife looking on whilst they search for her husband, Colonel Robert Budehaas, who is in the house. The MP's find the male located upstairs, cowering in the corner half naked - and covered in what can only be described as a strange rash....

We then move on to see Mulder and Scully sat in a bar, discussing the particulars of the above event. It would appear that the Colonel had experienced a psychotic episode and treated by the military for the condition - however the plot thickens in that the military refuse to comment further and that the Colonels wife had not seen him since he was removed four months previous. As a result the wife of Budehaas contacted the FBI. Mulder suggests that through research he has discovered that since 1963 six pilots had gone missing from the same airbase (Ellen's airbase), and that rumours centered around the flight of experimental aircrafts. Mulder's intention is to further investigate this missing person, yet before leaving the bar he is approached by a mysterious male who tells him to 'leave the case alone.' This male, who appears to be from some echelon of the FBI, suggests that he can help them in the future, but at the moment he is putting his and Scullys life at risk.

Mulder however ignores this advice. He is called by Scully and instantly realises his phone is being tapped - and so they cannot talk until the are on the flight to Marrienette in south west Idaho. The first port of call is of course the Budehaas residence, and the colonels wife tells the agent that her husband first developed the rash approximately two years ago, and that his personality became more and more unpradicatble. She went on to say that communication was difficult between the couple, and that similar occurrences had happened with another woman's husband - but after he went crazy and treated, he was returned home. The agents receive no joy at this second woman's home.

Mulder and Scully put themselves up at the Beach Grove motel, with Scully suggesting that the pilots may have flown orbital spy craft under the Aurora Project - yet Mulder remains unconvinced. The agents have no joy with military representatives and so Mulder turns up at the home of Colonel Kissel, who refuses to speak to them. At the address they also meet Paul Mossinger, who claims to be a local newspaper reporter looking into the Budehaas case. After talking to people at a local bar Mulder and Scully find themselves at the local airbase under cover of darkness - yet they are not alone. They stumble on two local kids and the four hide in the aim of evading a choppers spotlights. The plot thickens further when Mulder realises that Ellen airbase does not appear on any map - could aeroplanes be built at this location...using UFO technology. The pair then receive a call from Mrs Budehaas - her husband has returned home. They briefly visit and see Budehaas - yet he struggles to answer questions relating to piloting  Mulder deduces the fact that the pilots memory has been selectively erased as Budehaas had become a security risk.

When back in their vehicle the agents are chased by men in dark suits - they are subsequently searched and evidence destroyed. They are then old to leave the state and return home - or else. Scully wants to leave - yet Mulder has other ideas and returns to the airbase at night - where he witnesses some form of extra-ordinary ship in practice flight. He is then chased by personnel at the camp, who catch him and submit him to some form of painful testing - which we later learn to be selective memory wiping. Scully meanwhile is concerned for Mulders well being - Mossinger turns up and she quickly realises he is not a reporter but one of the military personnel. She makes him drive to the airbase at gunpoint - where Mulder is released. Mulder is disorientated and doesn't know what has happened - yet he quickly gains some composure as they return to the Budehaas address - only to be told that the husband is much better and they were no longer needed (the military had gotten to them).

The two agents return to DC, where Mulder has another meeting with his mystery informant (Deepthroat). He explains that Mulder had seen things he should not have seen, and that their lives are still in danger. Mulder is aware that 'they' had erased what he had seen, and that 'they've been here for a long time.'
