Amityville II Possession |
"Look at them, they're pathetic animals, they'd be better off if you killed them don't you think so...."
The Montelli's, consisting of father Anthony, mother Dolores and their four children have just brought a new house...and yes you've guessed it the Amityville house we remember from the first film. The windows appear to be nailed shut, and it isn't long before Dolores feels the presence of something else in the house, something that 'touched her.' We then witness some form of spirit covering the crucifix on the wall and scrawling images on the two young children's room with a paintbrush, and given the violent disposition of the father and his willingness to blame his family it isn't long before he is throwing punches and hurling abuse. However his eldest son, Sonny, finally snaps and holds a gun to his dad, and after being calmed by his family he hears a voice in his headphones asking him why he didn't pull the trigger. Dolores decides that the local priest, Father Adamski, must come to bless the house. He notices that Sonny is not pleased to see him, yet at this point we are aware that Sonny has been possessed. Whilst Sonny takes steps to demoralize his family, including the seduction of his sister, Father Adamski feels that an exorcism is necessary but this plea is refused by the church. Eventually Sonny gives in to the instructions of the voice in his earphones, and it isn't long before he is in the local police station. Father Adamski still believes that the boy is possessed, and his research into the house reveals that it had been built on some ancient burial ground. He communicates with the spirit, which refuses to give the boy up, and so it is left to Adamski to persuade the police to let him take Sonny to church in order to conduct his unauthorized exorcism. However once free from custody Sonny refuses to enter the church and heads back home, closely followed by the priest. The ending is a good one, and whilst the original Amityville film was an excellent one, this sequel certainly lived up to my expectation, and if anything the improved special effects make it all the more creepy and disturbing.
