I just found out, that a girl got killed here last week, and you knew it! You knew there was a shark out there! You knew it was dangerous! But you let people go swimming anyway
Martin Brody is the local Chief of Police in the sleeps seaside town of Amity, and one eveninghe is left suspecting that the remains of a girl washed up on the beach is the result of a shark attack. Of course this is a place that relies on the summer tourist industry and the local Mayor, Larry Vaugn, and the medical officer decide that the death was actually the result of a boating accident. brody wants the beaches closed but Larry has none of it...and so everyone is allowed to swim in the sea. However it isnt long before a boy is killed by the shark, and brody thinks thathe has enough now to close the beach...and he also brings in a shark expert from the oceanagraphic institute - Matt Hooper. meanwhile the resident of the twon meet - a $3000 bounty has been put up for cathcing the shark by the mother who lost her son - yet Mr Quint, a local fisherman, states that he would catch and kill it for $10,000. Hooper confirms that the first death was no boating accident, yet when a group of vigilante fisherman return with a dead shark everyone thinks that the panic is over - everyone can return to their normal life and July 4th and the rest of summer will again attract the tourists. However Hooper is not satisfied and he and Brody cut open the shark - discovering that it is not the man eater they are looking for. Despite all that has happened the mayor is intent on opening the beaches to all...and it is left to Brody to beef up the beach security. After a scare the shark strikes again...and this time brody forces the chief to offer Quint the money to catch the shark. Chief Brody, Quint and Hooper set out to track down and catch the 25 foot shark - knowing that this will not be an easy journey. The shark is an intelligent creature and the three men are all alone at sea....who will triumph????
