IRRESISTABLE

                         A model or psychological profile of a death fetishist does not exist....it is the result of a                       complex misplacement of values and a deviation from cultural  norms and social morays.

We begin in Minneapolis at a funeral of a young girl, with the deceased girls family being told that they will retain the body overnight so that it can be buried the following day. Later that evening one of the workers, Donnie Pfaster, is disturbed by his boss - it would appear that he was cutting the hair of the dead girl. Phaster quickly leaves and the episode jumps to the arrival of Mulder and Scully at a cemetery in Minneapolis - someone has been removing body parts from the corpses and they are initially greeted by Agent Bocks - who suggests to them that possibly the graves had been opened by aliens. The agents quickly learn that the hair and nails of the dead bodies had been removed, with Mulder suggesting that it is not aliens and that the perpetrator may have worked at the church, and possibly in a morgue or cemetery.

Meanwhile the viewer is also privy to the movements of Pfaster, who finds himself at Fiacello Frozen Foods on a quest to secure a job as a delivery driver. He tells the interviewer that he is studying comparative religion, and that he has an interest in hair and make-up - identifying the make of the lipstick worn by the female.

Back at the FBI field office Agent Bocks informs the agents that more bodies have been found dug up, three in the last two days. He tells them that the bodies had been desecrated, with the hair from heads taken from two of the bodies and on the third body, the fingernails were pulled out. For Mulder the case is coming together - what they have is an escalating fetishist, one whose compulsion is growing to such a degree that he may resort to homicide once he experiences a warm body. In her report Scully adds that the profile of a fetishist does not exist, identifying the components of a misplacement of values and a deviation from cultural norms and social morays. She concludes that he is most likely to be a white male, a man of above average intelligence, representing activities from the actual acting out of fetishist impulses, inclusive of opportunistic homicide. For Mulder this guy is escalating towards this action, yet he wonders what the deeper motives could be????

Meanwhile Phaster has been a busy man - he picks up a local prostitute and takes her back to his flat. He runs her a bath and asks her if her hair has been treated, telling her that he wants to wash her hair. Whilst Phaster is phoned by Fiacello's to tell him he has the job, the prostitute sees that the bath is filled with cold water, and that his flat is filled with wreaths. The following day the Police find a body sprawled in the street and she is devoid of hair and fingernails......Meanwhile Phaster is now a delivery man and attends one house in which he eyes up the occupants. He goes to the bathroom and rummages through the bin - finding some hair.

At the County morgue Scully assesses the body of the prostitute, stating that she was unable to state the time of death, although the body had been immersed in a cold environment. She concludes that outside of child homicide this is one of the most angry and dehumanizing muder imaginable. The other prostitutes are question by law enforcement officers, and they are able only to confirm that he is white. Mulder struggles with a lack of information, suggesting that they cannot make any more progress until he either kills again or they discover what it is that is driving him. He surmises that the hooker was convenient, and whilst the victims are all young women he questions what it is about the hair and fingernails. He concludes by suggesting that such crimes represent a deep hatred of women probably going back to his mother.

We then switch back to Phaster, who attends one of his classes at the Adult Educational College, where he begins to eye up one of his classmates. He approaches the female as she attempts to get into her car, but she takes evasive action and runs away - alerting the Police. Mulder and Scully meanwhile are alerted by the Police - a suspect has been picked up and they turn up at the local Police Station - however Mulder states that this is not the perpetrator. Across from the suspect Phaster stands in a cell and watches Scully closely, and inquires about her after they leave the cells.

Scully then gets a break - a fingernail from one of the fingernails has been lifted - and the Police quickly move to raid the flat of Phaster, who was earlier released without charge. Mulder finds incriminating evidence - however Scully, who has been suffering flashbacks, is kidnapped by Phaster and he takes her to a deserted house and begins to run her a bath. Scully is bound and gagged, and she continues to experience flashbacks of her recent abduction (in "Ascension" and subsequent episodes.). Mulder, realising that Scully has been taken, begins to panic as he struggles to work out where Phaster has taken her. He then makes an important link between Phaster and his mother - whilst she had died 12 months ago her car was a white sedan - and he is able to trace her old address. Scully meanwhile is asked whether her hair is treated, and is pushed towards the bath. However the house is raided just in time......
