Do you really think he's just a normal boy??
Mulder is skeptical over a coroner's report regarding the fifth person to be struck by lightning in a small Oklahoma town. Their investigation into the latest death seems to point to the only person to have survived a lightning strike, an emotionally–charged youth named Darren Peter Oswald. Oswald seems to have the ability to control or produce electricity, and this allows him to control lightning or electrical items. He has a crush on his former teacher, Sharon Kiveat, and this leads him to cause a heart attack in her husband, who is also Oswald's boss. He then disables the defibrilators and restarts Kiveat's heart with his bare hands. He is now under the suspicion of Mulder and Scully, but the sheriff releases him; along with the local coroner, he has been keen to dismiss any idea of foul play. Oswald goes in search of Mrs. Kiveat and is confronted by Mulder, Scully and Sheriff Teller. Oswald is caught, but with no physical evidence it is unsure whether a solid case can be made against him. Mulder and Scully go to Mrs. Kiveat and tell her she is safe. Sheriff Teller releases Oswald without Mulder or Scully's permission as he does not consider that there is any reason to keep him in custody. Mulder cannot contact Mrs. Kiveat and concludes she has gone to see her husband in hospital. Meanwhile, Zero (another Oklahoma teen) sees one machine in the arcade playing without power and realises Oswald is coming for him. Running out into the car park, he is killed by a lightning strike to the back. The agents rush to the hospital and try to persuade Mrs. Kiveat to come with them as it is not safe. At that moment the lights go out and the lift arrives with Zero's body. Oswald approaches Mrs. Kiveat and persuades her to go with her. He takes her to the car park and starts a car from a distance. Sheriff Teller arrives and tries to stop Oswald, whereupon Mrs. Kiveat runs and is pulled aside by Mulder. Oswald, persued by Teller, shouts that he would have given her anything. He summons an electrical storm, which kills Teller. The episode ends with Mulder asking if Scully really thinks he's just a normal boy as he watches television and (unseen by the agents) changes channels with his mind.
